Run for Your Heart

As a supporter of Run for Your Heart (RFYH) over the years, we would like to update you on our exciting new change that is taking place in relation to this longstanding event.

In recent years there has been a very welcome development in the physical activity landscape with a significant increase in the number of road races being held. In keeping with this the HFJ started its own 5k road race 2 years ago in partnership with Running Events Ltd. This event received widespread public support.

Our traditional Heart Health Fund Run (renamed RFYH) which is held at annually in November at the National Stadium each year will now be merged with Heroes of the Heart 5k and will be called, Run for Your Heart 5k.

Run for Your Heart 5k and 2K will now be held on the first Sunday in February every year to mark the start of Heart Month.

As was done in the past, Groups consisting of students, companies, friends, physical activity enthusiasts and individuals will still be encouraged to collect sponsorship for Run for Your Heart 5k and 2K. The Heart Foundation will be making the usual presentations and distributing pledge forms to the various groups well in advance of the event. Further details will be circulated in the coming weeks.

Run for Your Heart 5k and 2k race to be held on the February 3, 2019 continues to be an important calendar event for the Heart Foundation of Jamaica. This event highlights the value of exercise as an important part of a healthy lifestyle and it also helps the HFJ to raise much needed funds to support its island wide screening programmes.

Today it is even more important to encourage everyone – adults, parents and students to participate in regular physical activity to promote heart health and to live long and healthy lives.

Come on out and Run For Your Heart in support of this we encourage Corporate Jamaica and other well-wishers to invest in this lifesaving or life-changing event. The funds raised will not only allow the Heart Foundation to continue the subsidized screening services offered, but will also enable us to spread the increasingly important message about the risk factors for heart disease and what can be done to prevent it.

The Heart Foundation of Jamaica is committed to help reducing morbidity and mortality from cardiovascular disease (CVD) in Jamaica by promoting cardiovascular health through screening, treatment, education, research and advocacy. This objective is aligned with the World Health Organization’s (WHO) target of a 25 percent reduction in premature cardiovascular disease mortality by 2025.

We encourage you to save February 3, 2019 on your calendar.

Run for Your Heart on February 3, 2019 is a Run for persons/companies to sponsor and donate to a lifesaving cause.
